Why Did I Become a Health Coach?
I’ve always been interested in health and wellness and it stemmed from insecurity at an early age. During my 6-year-old wellness check, the doctor told my mom that she should watch what I eat…that I had a little bit of ‘extra weight’ that shouldn’t be there for a kid my age. From then on, I was told what I should and shouldn’t eat. You know…replace the Captain Crunch with Cheerios, no donuts or ice cream, and if I was hungry, I should ‘snack on fruit’.
From there, it was decades of weight struggles, stomach issues, and skin breakouts. And I tried everything: low carb, no carb, low fat, no fat, no sugar, calorie restriction, over-exercising…you name it, I’ve tried it. And the one thing I learned is that diets don’t work.
I also watched too many close family members suffer unnecessarily because of poor lifestyle choices, which ultimately led me to become certified as a holistic health coach through the Institute For Integrative Nutrition. It’s an amazing program that approaches nutrition through a very holistic lens. They look at the whole person and emphasize that nutrition is so much more than what you put on your plate. Sure, good, whole foods are important, but I learned so much more valuable information that it seems like a shame to not share it!
So here I am. I’m excited to work with women in their 40s, 50s and 60s because we have certain…let’s call them ‘challenges’ at this stage of life. And what’s that saying…’it take ones to know one’??
And it’s never too late to make positive changes for your overall wellness. I feel like a late bloomer when it comes to proper nutrition. I wish I knew what I know now and I’m so excited to share it with you!
